Summary of Web 2.0

For the second time I wrote a blog and then blogger had an issue and everything I wrote disappeared. It is safe to assume that I will never use blogger again after this entry. Many of these tasks I already use or have used. Web 2.0 was worth it for the day off. Yay for finishing!!!!

Summary of Web 2.0

Web 2.0 was an interesting experience. It has been difficult finding time to complete the activities but it was worth it for another day off! Many of the tasks I already do or use. A few I will probably never use again. Overall it was not a bad experience.

There is something charming about old houses altough this one is priced way too high at $839,000. And they call that a "Great Deal"!!! Hahahahahaha

Google Docs

I love google docs! Ever since I saw a demonstration of google docs several years ago I have been using it. I have made a Christmas gift spreadsheet and and a financial spreadsheet as well as many others. No matter where I am I can check, add to, or change the docs. It comes in quite handy!

Wikis

I just typed a paragraph about wikis and then this blog said it could not process it and now what I wrote has disappeared! FRUSTRATING! Here I go again...but much more condensed now b/c I am angry.

For years I have been using wikipedia as many other people have been. It is a great tool to have. The PALS wiki was an overload for me. Way too much information in my face. But I did enjoy the St. Joseph County Library System a well as Library Success.

Wikis

For many, many years I have used Wikipedia as mnay others have. Is is always a handy tool. Library Success: A best Practices Wiki is very cool. I will have to remember that one and take a look at it from time to time. The St. Joseph County Public Library System wiki is also uselful. They are each easy to use.

Google Reader and RSS

Google Reader and RSS feeds are good for keeping current with news and events. I already use some RSS feeds on my google reader. I learned that there was a bomb threat at Stony Brook.

Suffolk Wave

Some time back I went to SCLS to learn how to use Suffolk Wave. Last fall I did an Overdrive program to learn more about it. I easily downloaded a book, Ana's Story, but when I tried to open it on the computer it did not work. Maybe there is a glitch on their end.

Flickr

Flickr is pretty cool. But I am not big into sharing all of my personal photos. Snapfish has worked well for me so far. Shutterfly is also a cool photo site. But Flickr is good for the library website. I created my own account "LibrarianSkyle" and put up some photos of the sunset in Key West. Hopefully I will make it back there to see the sunset again!

Library Thing

This is not the first time I have used Library Thing but it is the first time I have created my own account. Library Thing is a good place for me to log all the books I have read. Maybe if I am bored one day I will get out my cards and enter each book. The tag cloud for 7th Heaven is large and helpful. Especially the words that are in bold.

Delicious

For this exercise I tagged IMDB, the Internet Movie Database. IMDB is one of my favorite websites to use if I have just seen a movie and I want to know what other movies or TV shows an actor has been in. Swiss Army Knife Librarian was almost interesting to read. Delicous is a tool I will not use again. It is good to know it is there though. I do like the tag cloud on our opac. That comes in handy!

Facebook

The library has 98 fans on facebook. I enjoy having a facebook account but I didn't like having a myspace account. Facebook is much better for connecting with old friends and keeping up with newer ones.

Twitter

Today I logged into my twitter account that I have not used in well over a year. Anyway, I also posted on the library's twitter and found some new people to follow on twitter. After today I might not use twitter again. It doesn't do anything for me. Another task completed!

My first time...

Here it is.... my first blog.

The snow is coming down and I have been checking to see if any libraries are closing early. Just a few are.

2 boys are playing one of the games I just bought from Toys R Us- Pay Day. Sounds like they are having fun. Next time I think I will give them Fact or Crap.
